About the Department
The Department came into being in 1976 under the headship Prof. R. Shotter and begun with five (5) students only. Biological Sciences Department is among the oldest departments in the university. Over the years, Department has witnessed fifteen (15) other heads, with Dr Tijjani S. Imam as the current head (2021-date).
The student enrollment grows from five (5) to 1009 as at 2019/2020 session. It is worthy of note that Department of Biological Sciences is the largest in the Faculty of Life Sciences in terms of students population and number of degrees it awards. In addition it is the department with the highest number of undergraduate courses B.Sc Applied Biology and B.Sc Zoology.
Furthermore, the department runs five (5) postgraduate programmes: Postgraduate Diploma in Biological Sciences (PGDBS), M.sc Applied Biology, M.sc Zoology, PhD Applied Biology and PhD Zoology.
